Category Management Manager

Our Category Management team turns insights into action and positively impacts retailer and category growth. We are hiring a Category Management Manager to lead category strategy in the Eastern US for our Buttery Spreads brands (including Country Crock and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter) and develop best in class category solutions.  Building relationships with vendors, brokers, and the internal sales and brand teams will also be part of your duties with the ultimate goal of increasing sales and profitability of the business to drive sustainable growth.


Who You Are & What You’ll Do

As a Category Management Manager, you have a natural curiosity to find out why something happened, and the ability to convert the “why” into a story that results in actions that grow the category. You love data. Analyzing scanner and loyalty card data is exciting because through it you can see and tell a story. Your job will be to build that story for large and small retailers in the Eastern part of the US via data and shopper/consumer insights. You will be responsible for translating shelving guidelines and category growth initiatives into something that makes sense to a buyer all while helping the sales team build a story to sell-in innovation. You will not do this alone however, you will have a broker team that you will lead in order to cover the over 30 retailers in the eastern division.  You will also act as a mentor and educator for our Sales Analysts to help the team reach our sales targets.

Your key duties will be:

    1. Localize National Strategy and deliver to direct and broker accounts
    2.  Influence future planograms (POGs) by creating localized shelving recommendations for buyers highlighting adds and deletes
    3. Collect and report on POG schedules, share of shelf changes, and placement pre and post resets
    4. Analyze sales results post reset and build strategy to improve upon the results
    5.  Analyze panel, retailer specific data, and news articles for insight and strategy development
    6. Bulid Customer Selling Story with sales partners for the retailer innovation and planning meetings
    7. Ensure Brokers understand the strategy and localize national strategy to execute plans accordingly
    8. Maintain templates for easier story-telling and ensure broker has tools needed
    9. Ad Hoc Analysis for accounts

What You’ll Need To Succeed

 An excellent category manager has extensive experience in understanding consumer needs and the retail environment. They know the differences between the multiple channels and the need to adjust plans accordingly. They are also comfortable managing multiple projects and people at once, keeping organized and focused on delivering in-full and on time. They’re comfortable in the weeds while not losing sight of the big picture. Exceptional communication skills are also a must for category managers as their ability to turn data into concise and action driven slides are a key to success.

 The ideal candidate has been in the consumer goods industry for 5+ years with over 3 years of proven experience as a category manager or similar role. JDA proficiency is a plus, as well as strong data analysis and analytical thinking skills. You must have a solid knowledge of category management, marketing, and sales principles. BS/BA in business administration, marketing or related field required, MBA preferred.

 Travel ranges from 15-50% as retailer visits demand. Ideal candidate will know how to use 84.51, EYC, Nielsen AOD Scan and Panel as well as IRI Unify.  Power BI is a plus.
