The role...

Upfield is looking for a highly experienced Engineering Director for the North and Latin American continent to drive, steer and shape an ambitious CAPEX program within the diary.  In this role you will be responsible for the whole change cycle of all of our factories in LATAM. The uniqueness of this part of the job is that you need to feel comfortable to step in to the operations key projects within these diary factories. Aseptic processing is expected to be well known territory.

At this moment we work with 3PM-consultants who help us in driving the change together with our own employees. The goal is to insource all the activities in the years to come and lead Upfield to the right locations to produce the amounts of products that make sense…

Besides the operational part, you need to be C-level savvy, advising the CEO and the Global Engineering Lead on takeovers, Capital plans etc.

In a nutshell….

  • Implements and maintains the Global Engineering strategy within the region
  • Support the Global Engineering Director in planning and managing project priorities for their region in line with the region’s growth ambitions
  • Supports projects within their regions to ensure they are properly planned, executed safely, OTIF, strictly within budget and successfully handed over to the respective Sourcing Unit team
  • Supports the implementation of the Upfield Sustainability program
  • Carries the responsibility to ensure the delivery of the projects within their region with either direct support from the Global Engineering organization or contractors pending the feasibility and urgency of the project
  • Provides input and approval on the capital proposals for their region prior to submission to the GE director / Execo
  • Carries the responsibility to ensure the delivery of the projects within their region with either direct support from the Global Engineering organization or contractors pending the feasibility and urgency of the project
  • Responsible for ensuring due diligence and compliance of the projects within their regions with the Upfield Engineering and QA standards as well as the application of specific local obligations and / or requirements

In addition:

  • Continuously strives to find the latest technologies and methods to improve efficiency, accuracy and productivity of the global Supply Chain assets and Global Engineering organization.
  • Takes personal responsibility for safety and a healthy environment on the projects, and demonstrating this by example
  • Leads and develops the engineering talent within the organization and region
  • Builds durable relationships with preferred suppliers and contractors to ensure reliability and cost optimization

Principal Responsibilities

  • Leadership skills in Process Engineering with the ability to handle complex multi-site projects with values ranging from 0.5 – 20 ME
  • Managing conflicting project priorities and complexity within the region while delivering a high rate of innovation
  • E2E OTIF and within budget of the agreed capital project portfolio for the region whilst ensuring safety as our number 1 priority and adhering to Upfield standards and Engineering excellence
  • Cooperation with the lead SC director for the region for the definition, planning and delivery of capital projects
  • Contribute to the development of the Upfield Global Engineering Organization, Capabilities, Resources and to the Delivery of its Global Vision

Essential qualifications

  • 10+ Years in Food, FMCG or related Industry
  • Fluent English and Spanish language
  • Operated at senior project manager level as well as on C-level and communicates accordingly
  • Project engineering / MT experience
  • Operational M&A experience in food or Diary
  • Leadership skills in Process Engineering with ability to handle complex multi-site projects
  • Carrying the responsibility for project successes and providing strong direction for the teams
  • Capital Procurement (CAPEX) experience

Travel required                                       

  • Travel would be required for at least 1 to 2 weeks a month within the region of responsibility (defined as either Europe or the Americas).
