Category Manager (6 months contract)

About the role:

We’re on the hunt for an interim Category Manager, to join our Northern Europe Category, Shopper and Trade team here in Southwark, London for a 6-month period. You’ll be crucial in helping us unlock plant-based growth with our key retailers, using a wealth of data at your fingertips and in turn creating solutions and actions that grow the category and Upfield business accordingly. This role requires you to put yourself in the eyes of the consumer and the shoes of our shoppers, to truly understand the dynamics at play, especially in the current environment of which the markets are facing. We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running; a self-starter, able to work autonomously and easily integrate into the wider team with ease to really start supporting the function from Day 1.  

Main Responsibilities:

You will be working with the wider Northern Europe Category, Trade & Shopper team, focused solely on our core and arguably most important part of the business. Critical to success in this role is to take accountability and responsibility for some of our top customers, ensuring to maintain and grow the relationships but also range, space and assortment recommendations accordingly. We need someone to be able to develop and craft market leading selling stories to take to the trade, whether that be for NPD through to pricing & promotional recommendations you need to be fully comfortable with engaging and driving external results.

We’re a performance driven organisation, and therefore with that makes category crucial especially being at the forefront of competitor and market insight. We need this candidate to be a key point of contact cross-functionally working across multiple teams including sales, marketing, supply chain & finance to effectively bring the external view back into the business and drive the so what’s as well as actions accordingly. You’ll need to use your consumer, shopper, and market insight to guide our marketing and sales teams in particular on what is best for the Category through your clear, coherent recommendations. Tracking will also be of paramount importance, being at the forefront of what’s going on in the market on a daily and weekly basis.

About you:

  • FMCG Category experience, ideally in the food or drink industry
  • Understanding of working with data & generating insights with high level of proficiency on core data platforms including Nielsen, Kantar, Dunnhumby, Sainsburys Insight Platform
  • A driven, resilient, commercially driven self-starter able to establish, foster & build great customer relationships with our retail partners
  • Excited by new challenges, driven & willing to go the extra mile to find new opportunities
  • A real team player who has the desire to roll their sleeves up and get things done from Day 1
