R&D Processing Engineering Manager

As our R&D Processing Engineering Manager you will drive the optimization of our processing, to make our products even better on the production lines! 

 Location: Wageningen, The Netherlands 


About the position 

In this role you will work in multi-functional teams responsible for optimizing current processes and develop new processes for our Upfield products. You will work very closely with food scientists, product developers, engineers and technicians in R&D and Supply Chain. You will be creating the processing technology agenda and roadmap in the relevant field while delivering the processing technologies for innovations to deliver best in class, natural, clean label, great tasting products. 

So what are the key objectives / projects you will deliver in the first year? 

  • Optimise current Upfield production process using technological innovation  
  • Make process design to upscale laboratory and pilot plant processes to full scale 
  • Supervise and execute various research projects, analyse data and translate findings to process window in factory 
  • Visualise & analyse data from production trials to enable interpretation and improvement of process and product parameters 
  • Create process flow diagrams and translate functional design to P&IDs in collaboration with engineering function 
  • Support the R&D innovation teams and factories in trouble shooting  
  • Drive implementation of new formulations into factories in a multidisciplinary team 
  • Lead and execute dHACCP, DQ and Risk analysis together with R&D project teams and Supply Chain 
  • Specify new equipment and check current process capability for innovations  
  • Monitor trends and technological developments and translate to processing innovation roadmap for Upfield portfolio  
  • Assess Internal and 3rd party manufacturing capability for innovations together with product experts  

So what does it take to be successful in this role? 

Maybe you have worked in a similar role for the past 3 to 5 years building expertise/technology in food processing. You are excited to learn how to operate new equipment and use new technologies. Any manufacturing experience would be highly appreciated as well as knowledge on plant-based food unit operations for cheese, creams, spreads. Ideally you have a master’s degree in food technology, chemical engineering, or any other related field. You are ready to connect innovations to technologies and shape the external world.
