Process Operator (3PM - 11PM) Oil Room

Location: On-site at 10 Craig Street, Brantford, ON

Schedule: Facility runs Monday - Friday, Straight shift 3PM - 11PM 

About the position

Above all, the Oil Room Operator is to work safely by observing all safety rules, including proper utilization of lock out tag out.  The Oil Room Operator will work under the direction of the Production Supervisor for the refinery to ensure the availability of required oils for production. This position will be responsible for accurate transactions as well as following safe forklift operating procedures. This is an entry level position where the employee will be trained on operating specific machinery and doing all oil transactions in SAP.

Safety

  • Knowledge and understanding of company safety policy, systems, and good practice relevant to Sourcing Unit and the responsibility placed upon individuals.
  • Ensure that procedures and practice adhere to safety policy and legislation.
  • Report all safety related issues and near misses to supervisor. If required will do the safety inspections in the operator’s area.
  • Industrial vehicles must be operated in a manner as not to endanger any person or property. All training guidelines must be followed.
  • Wear required PPE while performing all job duties.
  • Complete basic safety training provided to handle chemicals and dangerous goods.
  • Must actively contribute to the safe working environment, to include the completion of Safety By Observation (SBO’s)
  • Safe, licensed operation of powered industrial vehicles
  • Required to complete and contribute to all relevant trainings and EWO and associated paperwork.

Workplace Hazards

  • Full knowledge of workplace and hazards within it.
  • Utilize appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment relevant to the tasks in your area.
  • Work areas include conveyors and power industrial vehicles.
  • Work areas include machines that start and stop automatically.

Quality

  • Knowledge of product quality and food safety procedures.
  • Must actively contribute to all the quality related trainings and complete assessments.
  • Report any oil related discrepancies to the Supervisors.
  • Completes all Critical Control documents to ensure product quality.
  • Performs any specified quality assurance checks designated for each job, function or assignment.
  • Understands and adheres to color code.
  • Prioritizes Consumer Safety by adhering to the strict Food Safety and GMP requirements set by the company and may halt activities when there is potential risk for noncompliance.

Operational Activities

  • Conducts effective hand-over activities and records accurately events that have occurred during shift and review schedule with previous shift. Discuss any changes made to schedule and review any issues.
  • Maintains close communication with maintenance (Mechanics and Electricians) as well as Process Operators and Packaging Technicians / Operators.
  • Coordinate with Material Planners to receive and understand the daily and weekly oil requirements.
  • Ensure that oils received are entered and received in SAP.
  • Coordinate with Production Supervisor to ensure the availability of the required oils for production.
  • Report any oil related discrepancies to the Production Supervisor.
  • Assures good interactions with co- workers and with other functions of the company. Displays appropriate work ethics in the workplace
  • Refers to work order or procedural instructions appropriate for each job, function or assignment before commencing work.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and clean work areas in assigned work sites.
  • Assures that all work assigned to position is performed in accordance with specifications, instructions and requirements.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet production standards on specific assignments within a reasonable time, depending on the degree of difficulty of their job functions.
  • Carries out forklift checks to ensure that it is clean and in a safe condition per the established procedure.
  • Leading 5s activities and helping push forward the overall TPM agenda. Working on focused improvements and being an active member of a cell team responsible for the overall safety, quality, waste and efficiency for a specific area
  • Other duties as assigned.

Environmental

  • Follows proper containment and reporting procedures and escalates any environmental release as soon as they are known, this includes releases to internal drains.
  • Reduce costs due to waste and minimize impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
  • Must actively contribute to an eco-efficient environment including, but not limited to disposing of materials in the appropriate waste streams.

Problem Solving

  • An awareness of how to identify, prioritize and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.
  • Ability to make decisions when identifying in-process problems. Ability to deal with a variety of job assignments.

  • Must be a good team player capable of working within a highly effective team; responsible, supportive and able communicator. Embrace for a cultural change.

World Class Manufacturing (WCM)

  • An awareness of how to use performance measures to identify and prioritize losses in production area; provides description of problems and can provide monitoring of process or line issues.
  • Completes F-Tags accurately and completely, follows proper procedures for F-Tag submission
  • May be required to complete or contribute to EWO and associated paperwork.

Tools and Equipment

  • Licensed operation of required powered industrial vehicles including forklift
  • Basic computer skills to work with SAP
  • Cleaning supplies including but not limited to: chemical cleaning agents, towels, squeegee, brushes, dust pans, brooms, mops, etc.

 

About you!

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in manufacturing environment required; food production environment preferred.
  • Prior SAP experience required.
  • Forklift experience is an asset; however, certification is not required – will train in house.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well within a team environment.
